ORIENTATION The orientations on Tuesday, September 4, are geared toward parents, not students. On orientation day, students in grades Kinder-6 will be directed to the gym for school pictures and supervised activities while the parents remain in the classroom. You will pick them up in the gym when we are finished. From prior experience, it is best if small children remain at home during orientation, but if they do come, they will need to stay with the parent. School pictures will only be available from 9:00-1:00 and NOT during the evening orientation. We will have picture retakes at a later date (TBD) if your student is not able to attend.

ORIENTATION At your orientation, you will be given a packet of information that we will go through. The last page of the packet will be a tear-off form where you will indicate which online classes you would like your student to take (full or part time), or if you are joining us just for on-site activities (homeschool track). If you select online classes, I will generate an account for your student in OdysseyWare and get you the login information. Once you receive this information, your student can start right away, or wait until the official start day, September 5. MobyMax and All the Right Type accounts will be set up for ALL students, including homeschool, within the next week.
PICTURE DAY INFO Picture day for elementary students is on September 4, 9:00-1:00. Visit mylifetouch.com and enter our picture day ID, FO748105Q0.
PE STARTS SEPTEMBER 10 We will be starting our on-site activities with PE beginning the week of September 10. Days and times will be announced as soon as they are finalized. Some reminders about PE, wear appropriate clothing and shoes for running and being active and bring a water bottle.
COMMUNICATION The primary form of communication that I will use throughout the year to convey information is email. Weekly newsletters will be sent on Wednesday mornings (please make sure that we have your preferred email on file). This year, we will have a closed group on Facebook that will be used share information and photos throughout the school year. Search HOA Elementary 2018-2019 in Facebook and request to be added. You will need to answer a question about how you are connected to HOA (only direct families members or guardians of students will be approved). We also have a school-wide Instagram, just search Hillsboro Online academy and request to follow.
OUTDOOR SCHOOL Outdoor School for 6th graders will be at Cedar Ridge on October 3-5. I will have information at orientation.
SEPTEMBER FIELDTRIP Our first fieldtrip will be Thursday, September 27 from 12:00-1:30 at Jackson Bottom Wetlands. The bus will leave from HOA at 11:45 and return at 1:45. You can also provide your own transportation, but please let me know in advance. Your student should have eaten a full lunch and wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather as our fieldtrip will be fully outside. In addition, I would LOVE to have parent volunteers attend. Please fill out the volunteer application on the district website, https://volunteerapplication.hsd.k12.or.us/, as soon as possible.
ON-SITE SCHEDULE We are still working on our on-site schedule of activities and will hopefully have it finalized next week. For now, refer back to the letter you received this summer (I have also attached an image to this email) for the September schedule. With the exception of PE which starts September 10, our on-site activities will start the first week of October.
Yay! You made it to the end! And because you did, I will let you know something fun about me. I LOVE Disneyland and would go there every year if I could. Now, tell me something fun about you! I am looking forward to seeing you all next week!
