MONDAY AGENDA & FRIDAY FEEDBACK - Don't forget to send me your Monday Agenda and Friday Feedback!
SQUID DISSECTION - I wanted to give you all a heads up about a special face-to-face class we will be having on March 28-29. We will be dissecting squid, so if your student has a sensitivity to this type of activity, please know that it is okay to have them just watch or not attend class that day. I handle all dissection activities with respect and teach students to do the same. A big thank you to the parents that responded to my plea for help earlier in the week. I would still like to get 2 more parents on Monday and 2 more for Tuesday class. Please let me know if you'd like to come and help. We have invited our superintendent, Mike Scott, to participate on Tuesday as well! (Also, we will not be frying and eating the squid this year.)
SBAC (STATE TESTING) - Here is the link for more information on state testing, including opting out. Please check it out and let me know if you have any questions. http://www.hsd.k12.or.us/Academics/Resources/SmarterBalancedAssessment(SBAC).aspx We will start preparing for the SBAC on the first face-to-face class day in April. We will discuss testing strategies and even complete a few practice tests online. Third, fourth, and sixth graders will take two tests in Language Arts and two tests in Math. Fifth graders will take two tests in Language Arts, two tests in Math, and one test in Science. We are scheduled to take the tests during regular face-to-face class time, Mondays for 3rd-5th and Tuesdays for 6th. Our scheduled days for testing will be April 11-12, 18-19, and 25-26. We will have two dates, May 20 and 27 as make-up days if your student didn't complete the tests during the given time in April. This is a different format for us from previous years, so please feel free to ask any clarifying questions. Students who are opting out will not attend face-to-face class with me on those days in April, but we will continue to have PE, Art, Music, Band, our field trip on April 15, and clubs (unless otherwise noted). Our center is so small compared to other schools in our district and we only have one classroom to test all students (3rd-12th grade).
HOA CONCERT! - Mark your calendars! Our students in Band and Music have been working really hard on their songs this year and can't wait to perform for you! The concert will be on April 21 at 5:30, location TBA (but somewhere here at HOA). Yes, this is the same day as our Science Fair. If you have any questions, please let me or Mrs. Pratt know.
