6TH GRADE FORECASTING For 6th graders, we do forecasting in the Spring for Fall classes. We will be doing our forecasting at HOA on April 4 at 9:30. Because of state testing on Monday, we will be having a grades 3-6 workday that Tuesday, and then Mrs. Gatewood, our school counselor, will take the 6th grade students into the large room for forecasting. Our middle school program is similar to our elementary program in that we do have full time, part time, and homeschool options. If you would like to attend forecasting with your student, please come! In the meantime, it would be a good idea to begin having conversations with your student about your plans for next year so they will be prepared for forecasting. If you have any questions about forecasting, please contact me or Mrs. Gatewood at [email protected].

Volunteer judges will be interviewing students, grading projects with a rubric, and helping select the 10 projects to go to the District Science Far. Please let me know if you're interested.
APRIL FIELD TRIP We just got our field trip confirmed for April! On April 20, we will be going to Four Seasons Bowling Alley for a behind the scenes tour and bowling. Please add this fun field trip to your April calendar. The cost to you is free! Since we don't have Coding Club or PE that day, we will meet at HOA at 11:00 and walk down to the bowling alley (located on 3rd and Washington), or you can meet us there. I would love to have several parent chaperones. Please let me know if you can come and hang out with us!
STATE TESTING State testing is broken down for elementary students during the four weeks in April. The first week is for 5th grade students who are taking the Science test, the second week is for students in grades 3-6 taking the Language Arts test, the third week is for students in grades 3-6 taking the Math test, and the fourth week is for any student who needs extra time to finish ANY of their tests. If your student needs additional time beyond the scheduled dates, we will contact you to schedule extra sessions in May. If your student is homeschooled (meaning NOT taking online classes at HOA), they are exempt and are not required to take state tests through us, although it is offered to you at no charge if you would like them to participate. If your students is a 5th grader taking Science with us, they are required to take the Science test. If your student is taking Language Arts with us, they are required to take the Language Arts state test. If they are taking Math with us, they are required to take the Math test. Only one family has delivered official opt out forms to us (I confirmed this with them yesterday in an email), so if you are planning on doing this as well, we need forms ASAP. Here is the website for the practice tests, practice.smarterbalanced.org. I would recommend sitting down with your student and taking a test with them so they have an idea of what types of questions will be on the test.
