Supply Pick-Up at HOA! - Our entire 5th grade class has been the recipient of a very generous Donors Choose project! Each student will receive a 3-inch, 3-ring binder for their worksheets (more worksheets coming!) and a clipboard and ring light to help students take pictures of worksheets. There will be tutorial videos coming soon regarding how to use the equipment. Please come by HOA on Thursday, November 18, from 11:00-1:00. The drive-by pick-up will be in the front of the gym on 3rd Avenue, please stay in your vehicles.
Project Twinkle Toes - Participate in our school-wide holiday drive, Project Twinkle Toes, benefitting With Love and Project Lemonade! Bring new socks to HOA anytime during school hours until Winter Break, all sizes of socks from newborn to adult are accepted. In addition, there will be a class competition and the winning class gets a fun surprise!
New Clubs Starting Soon! - If your student has been attending Sign Language, Zoology, and OBOB, there are no changes, but we are adding more clubs! Yay! See this link to sign-up and let me know if you have any questions:
Grade Totals Hidden In Canvas - I have changed the settings in your student’s Grades to hide the grade total (cumulative percentages). For those of you who have had K-6 students in HSD, you know that the report cards do not simply reflect letter grades for subjects (A,B,C, etc) or cumulative percentages (95%, 80%, etc), but reflect whether or not the student has exceeded (E), met (M), nearly met (NM), or not yet met (NY) grade level standards. The cumulative score can be misleading when combined with HSD’s proficiency grading system because it shows an average of all scores in a subject, as opposed to individual grades for specific standards bands. Please let me know if you have any questions about this, or if you would ever like me to let you know cumulative grades as I am still able to see that on my end.
Attendance Reminder - Please have your student log into Canvas every school day and go straight to Grade 5 Homeroom to check-in for attendance.
PLANNING AHEAD...
November 22-24 - No School (Conferences)
November 25-26 - No School (Holiday)
December 20-31 - Winter Break
