CURRICULUM VAULT Calling all homeschool mamas, dads, and guardians! Meet me at the Curriculum Vault (also known as the Orenco Resource Warehouse) TOMORROW, Thursday, January 11, from 11:30-12:30. We will meet with the district media assistant, Linden Becker, who is a wealth of knowledge and is excited to help you find curriculum. The address is 22775 NE Dogwood Hillsboro, OR 97124. It's on the same property as Orenco Elementary School. See you there!
JANUARY FIELD TRIP Our next field trip is this next Tuesday, January 16 at the Oregon Food Bank. Third-sixth grade students need to be here by 8:45 as we will be leaving right at 9:00. Your student will not need to pack a lunch since we will be returning right around 12:00. I have 9 more seats remaining, so please let me know as soon as possible if your student wants to come and you have not already done so. Students attending will need to fill out a photo release form that is available on this website in the FORMS tab. I will also send hard copies home with students at the beginning of January. For planning purposes, we will not be having face-to-face class that day for 5th-6th grade, but we will be having PE from 2:00-3:00.

TREX RECYCLING CHALLENGE Last year the district collected over 7,000 pounds of plastic, WOW! For the second year, all Hillsboro schools & support buildings are participating in the TREX Film Plastic Recycling Challenge, which runs through April 22, 2018. Students, staff, family, and friends are invited to bring in plastic bags and plastic wrap to a designated bin. Each bag collected will be weighed and recorded monthly until the competition’s end. After the materials are turned in, TREX will transform them into composite lumber, saving the plastic from adding to the landfill or clogging up sorting machines at the recycling center. The winning schools/site—which will be announced on Earth Day, April 22, 2018—will receive a TREX bench. All plastic must be clean, dry, and mostly free of food residue.
LEGO/CODING CLUB CHANGES For the months of February and March, we will be shifting gears in the block of time that we currently have Lego Robotics. We are bringing back our SCRATCH program for grades 3-8, with no student limit. This is a popular and fun activity! We hope your student will join us. www.scratch.mit.edu
PARENT CONNECT Save February 7 for our next parent meeting with Angela Lorenzo.
