PARTNERSHIP WITH PARKS AND REC
I just received word that we are all set with Hillsboro Parks and Rec to begin registering HOA students for classes through them. This is how it’s going to work...if your student is enrolled in 4 core courses at HOA (Math, LA, Science, and Social Studies), you will have $100 to spend on classes and activities in the Winter/Spring catalog. NOT the SUMMER catalog. If your student is enrolled in 3 core courses, you will have $75 to spend. If your students in enrolled in 2 core courses, you will have $50 to spend. If your student is enrolled in 1 core course, you will have $25 to spend. You will not get the difference back. Right now, go grab a catalog, choose your course, and register your student like you normally would. Kristina, our office manager here at HOA will be in charge of the reimbursements, so save your receipt and bring it in the next time you are here. Please let me know if you have any questions. This is so exciting for us and we welcome your feedback on it.
APRIL FIELD TRIP!
We will be going to Poynter Middle School, right down Grant Street, tomorrow, April 9 to see a student production of, “There are Monsters in My Closet.” We will not be taking a bus this time, but meeting there between 9:30-9:45, since it’s so close. I have 45 seats reserved for students and parents. If you would like, you can also drop off your student(s) with me to watch the play and go run an errand. They will need permission slips and a small entrance fee (last year, it was 50 cents). The play will be approximately one hour, please pick-up your student at Poynter Middle School at 11:00.
HOA SCIENCE FAIR The HOA Science Fair is, next Thursday, April 16 from 6:00-7:30 in our gym. I will be sending out a request to you all soon for volunteers to help run various stations at our Science Fair. Volunteers at this after-hours activity do not need to pass district background checks, so if that’s not something you’ve done (or a relative, like Grandma or Grandpa would like to help), please don’t let that be a barrier for you to sign up. This will be a great opportunity for you to get to know other HOA families or spend time as a family volunteering for a fun school event. I am really excited about all of the fun things we will have at our Science Fair this year!

SQUID DISSECTION
We will be dissecting squid during our face-to-face class time on Monday and Tuesday April 20-21. I would love to have 3-4 parent volunteers on Monday and 5-6 parents volunteers on Tuesday. I have a very easy step-by-step packet that will assist you in helping students at your table walk through the dissection. During our Tuesday class, we will have a special visitor, Mike Scott, the Hillsboro School District Superintendent!
SCHOLASTIC We have a class code for online orders with Scholastic, it is MH739. It’s simple! Go towww.scholastic.com and register today! We earn points for books to build our classroom library!
7th GRADE FORECASTING Parents of 6th graders, if you were unable to make it to our parent meeting, please contact Brandi Tarrel, our school counselor, at [email protected] to arrange a time to come in and get information.
POETRY MONTH
Did you know April is poetry month? Isn’t that cool? Mr. Phelps, our secondary Language Arts teacher, has invited us to be a part of celebrating poetry with his students. What you can do is bring in your favorite poem, or write one of your own, and we will display it on our poetry wall in the school. They will stay up all month for others to enjoy.
Thanks for taking the time to read through the newsletter! I hope you all have a wonderful week! See you tomorrow at Poynter Middle School between 9:30-9:45!
