HOA IS A NUT-FREE CAMPUS We have a number of students at HOA that have life threatening peanut/nut allergies. Prevention is the best approach. We ask your cooperation in not sending any class treats or snacks containing peanut/nut products to school with your child. Please let me know if you have any questions about this, thank you so much for your cooperation.
NEW NEWS**************************************************************
MARCH FIELD TRIP Mark your calendars! Grades 3-6 will be heading to Downtown Portland next Thursday, March 19 for an awesome field trip to the Portland Art Museum. Please be at HOA at 9:00, we will return at 12:30. We will cancel all on-site activities for elementary (not middle school) that day. I would love to have 3 more parent chaperones that can confidently lead a small group of students. Additional parents, beyond the four we are allowed to take for free, may need to pay for admittance upon arrival. Please let me know if you are able to attend.
TALENT SHOW We are bringing back our evening K-8 Talent Show! The talent show will be the night of the Science Fair, April 16, 6:00-7:00. Try-outs will be Wednesday, April 8 at 1:00. If this time doesn't work for your student, please email Ms. Stubbs, [email protected], for an alternate time.
STATE TESTING INFORMATION I sent out an email last week with state testing information, which included our building schedule and some FAQ's. Since then, a few questions have come up. For Science, this is for 5th grade only. If students finish on the first day of testing, April 13, they will not need to attend the 2nd day. I will let you know by email when your student completes testing. Math and Language Arts are for grades 3-6. There are are two parts to each subject, Part 1 and Part 2. We will do Part 1 on Mondays and Part 2 on Tuesdays. If students do not finish testing in the time that we have scheduled, there will be make-up days, which will be posted later. Please let me know if you have any questions.

SCIENCE FAIR The Science Fair packet is available at school, or I can email you a PDF version. The HOA Science Fair will be April 16, from 7:00-8:00, in our gym. It is a required project for students taking Science online, and optional for all others, including Homeschool Track students. I will pause Science for elementary online students participating in the Science Fair from March 30-April 17, so they can work on their project. This is a really fun experience and I encourage everyone to participate. Students will receive their tri-fold display board when they turn in their parent-signed Science Fair Proposal (the last page of the packet). The top 10 projects will be chosen to represent HOA at the District Science Fair in May (time and date TBA). Please let me know if you have any questions.
ON-SITE SCHEDULE AFTER SPRING BREAK/STATE TESTING For planning purposes, I wanted to give you all a general idea of what on-site activities will look like after Spring Break through the end of the year. After Spring Break, PE will be the only on-site activity, all other clubs will be paused until May 4. Then in May, we will have a fun assortment of clubs in along with PE. The reason we pause clubs after Spring Break is because of state testing for grades 3-12, the building basically becomes a testing center.
SIGN UP NOW FOR NEXT YEAR! For the very first time in the history of Hillsboro Online Academy, we have had to close our elementary enrollment. This was tough for us to do as we love having new families join us, but we have reached maximum capacity for our one elementary teacher. Thinking ahead to next year, every family that plans to be enrolled with HOA needs to let us know now; get your transfer in ASAP! We will not be able to save your spot without completed transfer paperwork. In addition, if you know of other families planning to enroll at HOA, encourage them to submit their transfer request online now. The district is asking us to plan ahead to support an increase in number of elementary students. Thank you so much for being a part of HOA! Here is the link:

PICK-UP REMINDER Elementary students at HOA should not be on campus unless they are here for a supervised activity, or are being supervised by a parent/guardian. Please plan on picking up your students promptly at the conclusion of the final activity for the day. If you are unable to be here on time for pick-up, please let us know. Thank you so much!
FACEBOOK GROUP If you are on Facebook but not in the group, and would like to be, please reply and let me know and I will send an email invite.
DISTRICT POLICY FOR VISITORS ON CAMPUS Parents and other adults are always welcome in the building. Please enter through the main doors and check in at the main office. All other doors are to remain locked during the school day. All visitors are required to wear visitor identification tags when on our campus during a school day. As a courtesy to staff, please provide advanced notification if you wish to visit classes. You do not need to sign in if you are only here for drop-off/pick-up.
TAG If you think your child may qualify for TAG services, and want information about the referral and identification process, please contact: Casy Burnsed, [email protected].
VOLUNTEER APPLICATION Here is the link to the district's volunteer application. Approved applications are good for two years. https://www.hsd.k12.or.us/Page/163
