HOA IS A NUT-FREE CAMPUS We have a number of students at HOA that have life threatening peanut/nut allergies. Prevention is the best approach. Therefore, we ask your cooperation in not sending any class treats or snacks containing peanut/nut products to school with your child. Please let me know if you have any questions about this, thank you so much for your cooperation.
NEW NEWS******************************************************************
SCIENCE FAIR PROJECTS I have paused Science in Odysseyware for all students who are doing a Science Fair project. If I have made any errors, please let me know. The Science Fair is two weeks away! By now, your student probably should have conducted their experiment and collected their data. In my opinion the longest and hardest part of a Science Fair project is preparing the display board for the fair, so please make sure to give your student enough time to do that. If you are still in need of a display board, they are here at school by my desk. You can come in anytime for one.
SCIENCE FAIR JUDGES On the day of the Science Fair, students will bring in and present their project to a judge. I am looking for 10 parents who would like to volunteer to help with the judging on the day of the Science Fair. The time commitment will be 12:45-2:30 here at HOA. If you are unable to be here the whole time, that's totally fine, just let me know. I will provide you with the questions to ask and grading rubric, it will be easy and fun!
CAR ASSESSMENT Sixth graders looking to attend one of our 4 middle schools, Evergreen, Poynter, South Meadows, or Brown, next year are being asked to complete the CAR Assessment (Compacted Algebra Readiness). This is one piece of data that will help determine your child's Math placement for next year. If your student will be attending HOA in the Fall as a 7th grader, they do not need to do it. I will administer the CAR Assessment this Thursday, April 4 from 10:00-11:00 here at HOA. Please let me know if you have any questions about this, again, this is only for 6th graders leaving HOA for one of our other middle schools this Fall.
7TH GRADE FORECASTING If you are planning on having your current 6th grader enroll in their neighborhood middle school instead of HOA next year, you will want to contact that school's counselor to get started on forecasting for next year. If your student will be staying here for 7th grade, their forecasting sessions are April 10, 1:00-2:00 OR 5:30-6:30. Parents are welcome to attend. I have attached a PDF with more information to this email. If you have questions about forecasting, please contact Jennifer Fields, our school counselor, at [email protected].
K-6 PAJAMA AND MOVIE PARTY As a reward for winning the Oregon Food Bank Food Drive, our K-6 students are being treated to a fun movie and popcorn in the gym on Thursday, April 11 from 12:00-1:30. They can come in their (school appropriate) pajamas and bring a sleeping bag, pillow, and one medium sized stuffed animal (think Build-a-Bear size).
PARENT CONNECT The next Parent Connect meeting is Monday, May 6 from 11:00-12:00. Please contact our Homeschool Consultant, Angela Lorenzo at [email protected] with any questions.
