STATE TESTING State Testing for 4th grade will be Tuesday, May 25, from 9:00-11:00 in the gym at HOA. I have attached a PDF with the information, including opt out information and links to forms, and which tests are required for each grade level (Math for 4th grade). I will be at school assisting with testing, so we will not have our Class Meeting or Office Hours next week. Please direct questions to Shannon Freudenthal, Assistant Principal and School Testing Coordinator [email protected] or Linda Harrington, Principal [email protected].
DAY OF STATE TESTING For those of you that have students participating in testing, drop-off and pick-up is in front of the HOA gym on 3rd Ave (just like Chromebook/PE/Music kit pick-ups). Parents are not allowed to wait in the testing room. It would be ideal for your student to arrive 5-10 minutes before 9:00. Paper, pencils, and headphones will be provided. If they finish early, we will call you and let you know they are ready to be picked up. Students finishing early will be supervised by an HOA staff member. I have attached a picture of our testing room (our gym) that you can show your student ahead of time, so they understand what it looks like. Please let me know if you have any questions.
OPTING OUT OF STATE TESTING If you do not want your student to participate in State Testing, please fill out the following form based on your student's grade level:
3rd, 4th, 6th, 7th, 8th & 11th grade:
- 2020 - 2021 District Forms for Opting-Out of Smarter Balanced English Language Arts and/or Mathematics Assessments:
- English
- Spanish
- 2020 - 2021 District Forms for Requesting Exemption from the Science Assessment (grades 5 and 8 only):
- English
- Spanish
STATE TESTING PREP If your student is taking the state test next week, I highly recommend taking some time to do the sample test together at home. The required test for 4th grade is Math. Here is the link and directions to the sample test:
Directions to get to the practice tests:
- Go to osasportal.org
- Click on Sample and Training Tests
- Click on Sample and Training Tests AGAIN
- Click Sign in (you will not need to change anything on this page)
- Select 4th Grade

END OF THE YEAR PARADE! We will be having an end of the school year parade at HOA for 3rd-6th grade on Monday, June 14 from 10:00-12:00. You can decorate your vehicles, bikes, scooters, or whatever your mode of transportation is. Teachers will be there to pass out Summer goodie bags to each student and say goodbye in-person. We will miss you all!
STAR MATH ASSESMENT The district has asked the elementary schools in HSD to administer the STAR Math Assessment this year. This assessment can be done online at home, but students must log into a Google Meets with me so that it can be taken in a live, proctored session without parent help. I will be offering two sessions, June 1 at 1:00 and June 3 at 1:00, students do not have to attend both, please choose one. The test will take 20-30 minutes, but plan for 1 hour. If students finish early, they can log out of the meeting. I will be sending more information about this next week once we get past state testing. Please let me know if you have any questions about this. (ALSO, please note that this is NOT state testing and cannot be opted out of.)
