ON-SITE SCHEDULE I have attached the elementary on-site schedule to this email. This schedule begins in October, with the Sports Club with Ms. Stubbs only happening in November and December. Please let me know if you have any questions.
BAND The band class at Mooberry is beginning next week! See the attached flyer for information. In a previous email, I had stated that the times on the flyer were not correct. However, a few emails were exchanged and it was determined that the flyer is correct with rehearsal on Thursdays from 2:30-4:00 at Mooberry. Please email Ms. Geiger, [email protected] with questions.
ATTENDANCE POLICY Our elementary attendance policy is ready to be announced! Similar to the previous years, your student will still need 2 check-ins per week, each counting for 2.5 days. Things that count as check-ins are attendance at on-site activities, emails or messages from parent or student, face-to-face meetings, and phone calls. Any combination will work, just ensure that you get in two before the end of the week. If you have any questions about this, please let me know.
THURSDAY EMAIL This year, I wanted to try sending what I'm going to call the "Thursday Email." The Thursday Email will be sent to parents of students who have found themselves off pace in Odysseyware. Off pace means that there are one or more late assignments in one or more subjects. The purpose is to alert you of the issue in time for things to be done about it (before it becomes a big issue). The reason I chose Thursday is that the student will have Friday to get caught up before the weekend. The email will be pretty generic, but if you receive it, it will be your responsibility to go into your student's OW account with your student and look into it. Please let me know if you have any questions.
K-2 PE CLASS Please let all of your homeschooling friends know about our awesome (FREE) Kindergarten-2nd Grade Homeschool PE on Mondays from 10:00-11:00. Please have interested families contact Kristina in our main office at 503-844-1050 for sign up information.

SEPTEMBER FIELDTRIP Our first fieldtrip will be Thursday, September 27 from 12:00-1:30 at Jackson Bottom Wetlands. The bus will leave from HOA at 11:45 and return at 1:45. You can also provide your own transportation, but please let me know in advance. Your student should have eaten a full lunch and wear appropriate clothing and shoes for the weather as our fieldtrip will be fully outside. I have had a WONDERFUL parent response regarding my request for chaperones. At this time, we have all of the parents that we need.
FIELDTRIP PERMISSION SLIPS Please email me if you aren't sure if you filled one out for this year (permission slips don't carry forward from year-to-year, new ones must be filled out). Forms are available here at HOA and can be filled out anytime before the fieldtrip next week.
ODYSSEYWARE SUPPORT SESSIONS Next week we will have two OW support sessions, Monday and Tuesday 11:00-12:00. This is for the student and parent to get help with the OdysseyWare curriculum. Due to the importance of the parent role, the parent should attend with the student. It is a drop-in help session, you don't need to stay the entire time, or if your student is doing well they do not need to attend.

FACEBOOK/INSTAGRAM This year, we will have a closed group on Facebook that will be used share information and photos throughout the school year. Search HOA Elementary 2018-2019 in Facebook and request to be added, or use this link https://www.facebook.com/groups/HOAelementary/. You will need to answer a question about how you are connected to HOA (only parents or guardians of students will be approved). Some people are having trouble finding the group in Facebook. You may need to click on "Groups" once you've typed the name into the search bar. We also have a school-wide Instagram, just search Hillsboro Online academy and request to follow.
