"Hello HOA Families!
Welcome back to HOA!! I hope that you had a wonderful summer, enjoying everything that you like to do, and with those who you enjoy spending time with! I am very excited for this school year! We have some new activities/games on the horizon in PE, as well as those favorite games/activities that many of our returning students enjoy! We will look forward to seeing many of our elementary school students in HOA’S Onsite PE classes starting around the first of October.
I would like to take this time to share some news that I received over the summer, I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. Although this was a shocking diagnosis, fortunately, we caught it at an early stage (2). At this time I have undergone 1 round of Chemotherapy, which caused a few side effects (mostly fatigue), but after the first week after the treatment, I have my full energy back! As we know, chemo is most often associated with hair loss, and I have been told that I will lose my hair. Although this is a scary thought, I am coming to terms with it (as of today, I still have my hair). I just wanted our students to know that when they see me in October, I probably will look a little different. I feel that being upfront about this will ease my anxiety, and prepare them for the “different look”! Personally, I feel that losing my hair is a small price to pay for getting rid of the cancer!
Anyway, I cannot wait to see all of your faces really soon! Please take care until we see each other again!
Becky Stubbs"
HOA IS A NUT-FREE CAMPUS We have a number of students at HOA that have life threatening peanut/nut allergies. Prevention is the best approach. We ask your cooperation in not sending any class treats or snacks containing peanut/nut products to school with your child. Please let me know if you have any questions about this, thank you so much for your cooperation.
GERMS, ILLNESSES, AND ON-SITE CLASSES Given Ms. Stubbs recent cancer diagnosis and subsequent chemotherapy treatments, we are asking families to keep students at home if they are not feeling well, particularly if there is a fever. We will be using hand sanitizer frequently as a precaution while students are on campus. If you have any specific questions for Ms. Stubbs, her email is [email protected].

MOBYMAX MATH PLACEMENT TEST You should have received your student's MobyMax login information last week. If you did not, please let me know and I can send it to you. On Monday, I asked all students registered in Odysseyware to take the Math Placement Test in MobyMax by this Friday. Please check in with your student today to see where they are with this. The placement test is not graded, it just helps MobyMax to know what lessons to assign. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.
MRS. KELLAR'S STEAM CLASS I wanted to share with you my plan for our new STEAM Class starting on Monday, September 30. For returning families, you might remember that we used to call it Face-to-Face. This year, the class will be on Monday's from 10:00-12:00, and we will alternate 3rd-4th grades one week, and 5th-6th the next week, and so on. If you have students in both classes and want them to be in the same class, please message me. There will be two main objectives for this class, exposure to STEAM concepts and having fun with friends! In addition, the last 20-30 minutes of class will be lunch/snack time and I will be reading aloud to them. When packing lunches/snacks for your student, please remember that we are a nut free campus. Please let me know if you have any questions about this. I will include a schedule below for the STEAM Class for the next few months.
