CHECK-INS Just a reminder that I need 2 check-ins from you in one week. Either one face-to-face and one email, or two emails. These count for your student's attendance. Students can also send in their own check-ins through OdysseyWare or Accelerate Ed.
QUESTION OF THE WEEK (for end of the week check-in)- What are your fears or concerns about your child in this year of school?

We will return to HOA on Friday, October 7 at 1:15. More information can be found on the Outdoor School link on my website, mrskellar.weebly.com. Outdoor School is not required, but is a highly recommended school experience. I have scheduled an Outdoor School Q & A for 6th grade parents during PE on Tuesday in the classroom from 11:00-12:00. Please come if you have any questions.
WHAT IS FACE-TO-FACE CLASS? Face-to-face class is an optional activity for your student to come to HOA with their peers and experience a mini school day. We have recess, work on group projects, and eat lunch together. The main emphasis is generally science, but the best part about this activity is the opportunity for social interaction in a safe classroom setting. We start out with a quiet activity and ease into "class" with a class meeting where we will talk about the day and get to know one another better. The middle chunk of our time is taken up by group projects and recess. We end our time together with lunch and a teacher read-aloud. This year, I will be reading The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. I really hope that your student(s) participates in this fun activity, plus you get a little break as well!
WALK/RUN CLUB Our Walk/Run Club will be starting on October 12, 1:30-2:30. We are working on securing a location and will let you know as soon as we know. Parents are invited to participate as well!
ART CLUB The first meeting of Art Club is Wednesday, October 12 from 9:30-11:00. Hope to see you there!
PARENT CONNECT The first meeting of our parent group, Parent Connect, is Wednesday, October 12 from 9:30-11:00 (this is during Art Club). If you have a student at HOA, this is for you! If you have any questions about this group, please contact Angela Lorenzo at [email protected].
CODING CLUB The first meeting of Coding Club is Thursday, October 20 from 10:00-11:00. Please let me know if you have any questions.
MUSIC UPDATE We have been unable to find a qualified candidate to be our music teacher at HOA this year. At this time, we have decided to put the music program on hold until we can come up with a creative solution. In the meantime, a program that we recommend for students that are interested in singing is the Hillsboro Community Youth Choir. We are continuing to look into ideas for music at HOA, but if you have any ideas or know of any music teachers (must be state certified) looking for a (very) small job, please let us know.

Thanks to all of you for making this a fantastic first month of school! As we flip over our calendars to October (or swipe on our smartphones), don't forget to grab those opportunities to create memories with your kiddos while you have them at home during the day. Go to the pumpkin patch, take them out for hot cocoa and a walk to feel leaves crunching underfoot, and most importantly, please remember that you're not alone in this homeschooling journey. If you or your student is struggling, please reach out to either me or Angela. We are happy to help!
