NO SCHOOL
BLUE MONDAY/TUESDAY FOLDERS AND FACE-TO-FACE CLASS In efforts to improve school-to-home communication, students will have a take-home folder that needs to be brought weekly to their face-to-face class with me (Monday for 3rd-4th grade and Tuesday for 5th-6th grade). They don't need to bring it any other day. Every week, there will be a copy of the newsletter and the OdysseyWare check-in sheet, as well as any other special communications for the week. Yesterday/today, permission slips were/will be sent home for participation in clubs. Please fill out and return the bottom portion of the permission slip as soon as possible. Also, please have your student bring their district laptop to their face-to-face class day. It will help your student to get signed into OdysseyWare and MobyMax quicker, in addition, it is also recommended because the district pushes out updates weekly and it also keeps permissions current. If you don't feel comfortable doing that, it's okay, your student can use one of our classroom computers, but it would be good to bring your student's laptop back to school from time to time so updates can be applied.
PARENT CONNECT The next Parent Connect meeting is Wednesday, November 1 from 9:00-10:30 here at HOA.
CHARGER CLUB PARENT SURVEY Please take a moment to fill out the confidential survey from Mrs. Gatewood for the Charger Club. https://goo.gl/forms/nxOeRcK45aAgfMoY2
Hello HOA Parents! Thanks for taking the time to give input for Charger Club, which will be on Thursdays from 11-11:45 beginning on October. This club is designed to teach elementary student counseling topics that would be typically given by counselors in a classroom guidance lesson at brick and mortar schools. Topics will cover the national counseling standards (personal/social development, academic development, and college/career readiness). Thanks for taking time to let me know which topics you feel would be most beneficial for your students in Charger Club. I'm really looking forward to running this program this year. As always, please email me with any questions. Ronda Gatewood HOA School Counselor [email protected]
LEGO ROBOTICS The first session of Lego Robotics (formerly known as Coding Club) is currently full, but I am making a Wait List. Please reply back for your student if you would like them to be placed on the Wait List.
ENGINEERING CLUB This is a NEW club! On Thursdays from 10:00-11:00, we will have Engineering Club led by parent, Michael Thompson with Mrs. Harrington, for grades 3-8. Merriam-Webster defines engineering as “the application of science and mathematics by which the properties of matter and the sources of energy in nature are made useful to people.” Students will learn about engineering by completing design challenges and activities. We will also be introducing the use of engineering notebooks, personal protective equipment, and technical writing.
ROOM PARENT If you are interested in being a room parent for Monday's Face-to-Face class (3rd-4th grade) or Tuesday's Face-to-Face class (5th-6th), please email Angela Lorenzo at [email protected].
OREGON BATTLE OF THE BOOKS We are so close to getting an OBOB team started at HOA! We have had two parents step forward as being helpers, but we are still looking for a team leader. If you are interested in helping lead, please let me know.
SPECIAL PROJECTS/END OF THE UNIT TESTS I have put together a project list and rubrics for the Special Project option at the end of each unit in OdysseyWare. In addition, I have recently added a third option for the end of each unit. If a student has received a cumulative score of over 90% for the unit, they can skip the end of the unit Special Project or Test. Just have the student send me a message in OdysseyWare and I will manually skip it for them. The project list and rubrics are found in the FORMS section of my website, mrskellar.weebly.com, and were sent home in Monday and Tuesday folders.
MRS. KELLAR'S OFFICE HOURS I am here at HOA Monday-Thursday from 8:00-3:00. If you have concerns or questions, please email me and we can set up a time to meet. Pop-ins are generally not encouraged as there is no guarantee that I will be available or at my desk.
